Hattiesburg, Miss. - SCAD Atlanta men's and women's tennis continued their Spring Break road trip to Hattiesburg, Mississippi yesterday to face off against William Carey. A perennial powerhouse, both of William Carey's teams are currently ranked #9 in the nation. It was another tough stop for the Bees on the heels of playing Xavier in New Orleans the day before, and the William Carey teams showed their strength in a dominant win.

William Carey leaped to an early lead in the doubles, taking five of the six available points. On the women's side the SCAD pairing of Simran Kejriwal and Katrina De Guzman were almost up to the task, pushing the match to 7-7 before finally dropping to a 9-7 loss. Ernesto Sanz Martinez and Lautaro Monardo were able to push clear for an 8-6 win at #2 doubles in the men's matches. Heading into the singles the William Carey sides led 3-0 in the women's, and 2-1 in the men's.

In the end the lone doubles win would prove the only match victory for SCAD on the day. Despite being swept in the singles, there were several highly contested matches that showed the Bees' mettle. Jordan Skalet was able to win his first set in a tie-breaker before eventually retiring from injury. Freshman Ernesto Martinez pushed his #1 singles opponent to the edge in both sets, falling 6-4, 6-4. Simran Kejriwal split sets with her opponent at #1 singles before dropping the third set. She was joined by doubles partner Katrina De Guzman in her outcome, with Junior De Guzman also falling in three sets.

Consecutive matches against such strong opponents will only prepare the Bees well as they head out on the road again in a few days to face off against conference opponents Tennessee Wesleyan and Union College.
