Braselton, Ga. – The SCAD Atlanta women's golf team mounted a solid comeback as they secured their place at the top of the leaderboard at the AAC Fall Championship at Chateau Elan Golf Course yesterday (10/15). The win marks the fifth straight AAC tournament the Bees have won, dating back to the AAC Direct Qualifier in the Spring of 2018.
Competing against 12 teams and playing on the 5,830-yard par 72 course, the Bees faced challenging conditions. With steady rainfall the day prior, the soggy fairways and damp greens made the course play extremely long. Play was slow as the players struggled to make the best of these bad conditions. Milligan emerged in the lead at the end of day one, with a score of 332. SCAD tied for 2nd along with Truett McConnell, with a score of 336.
Day two showed improvement in the weather conditions. Although it was overcast, the sun had dried the course out somewhat the day before making the greens a little faster and the fairways firmer. The SCAD Bees took the course with determination, and fired a very strong score on the front nine. As the scores trickled in, it became apparent the women hadn't just overtaken Milligan, they had also pulled clear of Truett McConnell to win by five strokes!
"The course was playing extremely long due to the weather, making it a challenging situation but the Bees kept themselves within striking distance at the end of the first day, and then their grit came through as they surged to the win" said Athletic Director, Glen Hill. "This wasn't a victory that came about because of one or two amazing performances. This was truly a team win. Everyone played their part."
Senior Leslie Ginter led the Bees to victory with 84/78 to tie for 10th of a field of 70 players. She was followed closely by Sophomore Alyssa Inniss-Gittens and Senior Rachita Vasandani, both of whom tied for 12th with matching scores of 85/79.
The Bees will travel to Miami to compete in the next tournament, hosted by Johnson & Wales, October 28/29.
