Atlanta, Ga. - The SCAD Atlanta Women's Tennis team remained undefeated in NAIA play after a weekend of home play, taking down Columbia College and Georgia Southwestern to start their season 3-1 overall. Despite weather concerns, the team was able to get both matches in, notching comfortable wins in their quest to regain their conference champions crown.

Saturday's match with Columbia started on a slight rain delay as overcast skies and occasional drizzle left a cloud of doubt hanging over the contest. The Bees surged to an early lead with a strong showing in the doubles. Simran Kejriwal and Katrina De Guzman clinched #1 doubles 8-1, with the other two matches going to SCAD with similar scorelines. With more rain headed for the city, the singles was played with an abbreviated 8-game pro set. The SCAD women swept the singles also, with none of the players losing more than two games down the line.

The next day proved a different sort of challenge as the same came out but brought strong winds with it. Facing a more stout Georgia Southwestern team, the Bees experienced some challenge in the doubles. Sofia Guerra and Vivian Amaro ran away with #3 doubles 8-2, and Kerjiwal/De Guzman took #1 doubles 8-3. The line #2 match was a different affair. After a see-saw battle, the match went to a tie-breaker, which Georgia Southwestern was able to inch 7-5. This put the Bees in a 2-1 lead heading into the singles.

Simran Kejriwal continued her excellent start to her Sophomore season with a straight sets win at #1 singles, 6-1, 6-3. With a 3-1 lead, the Bees were closing in on a team victory. Fellow Sophomore Madie Homan brought SCAD within one match of victory when she closed out #6 singles with the same 6-1, 6-3 score. Georgia Southwestern was not willing to go down without a fight however. Wins for the SCAD opponents at #2 and #4 singles brought the GSW team within a single match of tying things up.

Despite dropping her first set 6-4, Giulianna Hull flew back to level her match at one set apiece with a 6-4 win in the second. With her third set going the distance, the Costa Rican was able to inch ahead and claim the point for the Bees in a third set tie-breaker. Freshman Vivian Amaro faced a similar struggle, dropping the second set after winning the first to send her match to a decider. Her 7-5 win in the third set enabled the Bees a margin of victory as they forged to a 6-3 win overall.

The Bees currently sit at #16 in the nation in the coaches' polls.
