San Jose, California - 52 fencers gathered from both the USA and around the world to compete in the Junior World Cup event in San Jose, California over the weekend. Compete on behalf of SCAD were the Andreyenka twins Hanna and Yana. Both came into the event with high hopes, looking to improve their world junior rankings. The field was comprised mostly of fencers from the US, with others coming from South America, Europe, and as far away as Asia to compete.

Split into 8 pools of either 6 or 7 fencers, the round robin format involved bouts to 5 points with the top 38 competitors advancing to the knockout rounds. Hanna opened her appearance in the contest with three straight wins. First to fall was Croatia's Dorja Blazic (#121) 5-3. Hanna followed with victories over American fencers Asherah Horsely (#314) and Cameron Cho (#69), both by 5-3 scorelines. Andreyenka faltered in the final two bouts, dropping a 5-3 result to Karina Yaroshenko (#117) of the USA. Another loss to American Sophia Shen (#139) was not enough to stop Hanna from advancing to the direct elimination rounds.  Yana struggled in her group stage. Despite every bout being close, Yana failed to get a result and subsequently did not advance.

Hanna's group stage results were enough to secure her a bye in the first round of elimination. Her luck ended there however. Her first opponent was #10 world junior ranked Helen Tan of the United States. Despite being #33 herself in the world junior rankings, Tan was too strong on the day, pulling away early for a 15-4 result. The outcome was enough to put Hanna 24th in the final standings, and improve her junior world ranking by two places to #31. Yana finished #48 overall.
