QUICK PAR: SCAD Atlanta Women's Golf hoisted the trophy at the Appalachian Athletic Conference Championships on Tuesday after a roller coaster two days of highly competitive golf. Hosted at Governors Town Club in Acworth, Georgia, the tournament marked the direct qualifier for the AAC into the NAIA National Championships to be played next month in Illinois. The Bees won the team title, with Senior
Martha Sanchez placing first individually.
Day one started with challenges for the Bees as they slipped down to 5th place in the early stages of round one. The SCAD team clawed their way back to finish round 1 in 3rd place, 15 strokes behind then-leaders Milligan University. Round two saw the Bees show their quality, shooting an impressive 291 team score to fly back into first place by 2 strokes to finish the first day of play.
The final round saw SCAD stretch their lead past ten strokes, but a strong push from conference rivals Truett McConnell brought the teams to a tie with a handful of holes left to play. This was not the only battle taking place, with Bees
Martha Sanchez and
Holly Lau sharing the tournament lead individually for most of the round. As the day came to a close, SCAD inched ahead by two, then four strokes to seal the championship for the Bees.
