Salt Lake City, Utah -- The October North American Cup marked the SCAD Fencing Team's first major tournament of the season. The team delivered stable performances and, more importantly, gained valuable insights into their current strengths and areas for growth as they adjust more to the new coaching structure and training program. This national event gathered a highly competitive field, with 260 competitors in Division I Men's Foil and 186 competitors in Division I Women's Foil. Many coaches compared the intensity of this NAC to a World Cup, as both the Korean and Canadian National Teams were present, significantly raising the level of competition.

Overall, the SCAD Fencing Team performed strongly against top national and international competition. Graduate Student Aleksandra Korablina delivered one of her best results to date in the U.S., finishing 30th out of 186 competitors. After a slower pool performance (96th after pools with 3 wins and 3 losses), she successfully adapted her strategy and fenced with confidence in the DE rounds. Aleksandra finished 96th after pools, winning 3 bouts and losing 3 bouts.

MEN'S TEAM RESULTS:

  • Anton Korablin Finished 81st after pools with 4 wins and 2 losses. In the direct elimination (DE) round, Anton narrowly missed advancing to the Table of 128, losing by just a few touches. Final placement: 136th.
  • Gregorio Isolani Finished 109th after pools with 3 wins and 3 losses. Gregorio won his first DE bout in the Table of 256 but was eliminated in the Table of 128 by Bourtis James. Final placement: 95th.
  • Seif Elghayesh Finished 191st after pools with 2 wins and 4 losses. Despite a challenging pool round, Seif made a strong comeback by defeating South Korean fencer Choi Hyeokjun in the Table of 256. He later lost to Canadian fencer Wong Adrian in the Table of 128. Final placement: 126th.
