The SCAD Atlanta women's tennis team took to the road for the first time this season with away matches against Point University and Columbia College. The 9-0 and 7-2 wins over the Skyhawks and Fighting Koalas moves SCAD Atlanta to a perfect 3-0 record in conference play this season.
The Bees got off to a strong start against Point University, dropping just two games across all of the doubles matches to take a 3-0 lead heading into the singles. Led by senior Paula Peter's dominating win at #2 singles the SCAD Atlanta women steamrolled their way to a 9-0 win in emphatic fashion.
Coach Glen Hill had this to say about the win:
"The Bees put in a dominating performance today. Any time you can take all nine points it's a good feeling and today was no exception. I'm very happy with the atmosphere on the team and the way the women are coming together. If we can continue in this vein our best tennis is undoubtedly ahead of us."
Columbia College proved to be more stalwart opponents, but again the Bees were up to the task. After taking two of the three doubles points, transfer
Emma Bilyeu and freshman
Tina Gancev won hard-fought victories at #4 and #5 singles respectively.
Elisa Freitas rallied from a set down to seal the win at #3 singles after
Paula Peters and
Lee-Anne Lingo achieved convincing wins at the top of the lineup.
"Columbia put up a good fight today but our women proved their spirit with a win," said Coach Hill. "LeeAnne Lingo and Paula Peters remain undefeated in doubles on the season, and both put in good singles performances. Freshmen Tina Gancev and
Natalie Palmer combined for a win at 3 doubles, and Elisa Freitas came back from a set down to win. It was a solid performance that builds on our previous matches as we head into finals for the Spring Quarter."
The Bees take to the courts next against Kalamazoo on March 21st in Kissimmee, Florida.
